Urban and Regional Planning
The North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments is primarily a planning agency that operates in an advisory capacity, in providing assistance to local and member governments in planning related activities. This is accomplished through a planning and decision-making process which includes data collection and analysis, problem identification, evaluation of alternatives, aide in the adoption of policies and strategies and implementation. Regional Planning North-Central Alabama Regional Council of governments houses a wide range of information on a variety of topics, which includes housing, transportation, sewer, water, solid waste, environment and economic development. The council provides comprehensive responses to various types of needs and problems throughout the region, while providing assistance in guiding the future growth and development of the region. Technical Assistance North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments provides technical assistance to local governments in addressing essential community development, planning and economic development needs. Regional Clearinghouse North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments serves as a regional clearinghouse for federal and state projects. The regional council reviews applications for federal and state assistance to insure that proposed projects are consistent with local, regional and the district CEDS. State Data Center North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments is a State Data Center affiliate, an official census depository designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census. The council receives all census data, publications and special reports from State and Federal Agencies. State Planning North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments, in partnership with various state agencies is planning for specific as well as general state wide needs and developing possible solutions for those needs. This effort provides for regional plans formulated by the council for various facilities, activities and services to be integrated with similar plans from other regions of the State to form state plans. Economic Development The North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments provides economic development planning and assistance, with financial assistance and support from the Economic Development Administration under Section 302 (a) of the Public Works and Economic Development Act, as amended in 1974. Economic planning activities consist of providing data collection and analysis; assistance to local governments in grant/loan application requests and in grants management; direct application preparation for grant/loan funds; formulation of economic development goals and strategies designed to promote the mission of the region, and an annual update of the regional CEDS.
