The NARCOG was awarded a FY 2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning and Demonstration Grant totaling $200,000.
This funding will allow NARCOG to begin developing a new Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for the region. Serving a primarily rural area with a population of more than 244,000 people, the grant will support efforts to better understand local roadway safety issues and identify practical, community-focused solutions to reduce crashes and improve overall transportation safety.
NARCOG’s award is part of a major national investment in safer streets and roads. For FY 2025, the SS4A program awarded 521 grants nationwide, totaling more than $982 million. Of those, 454 were Planning and Demonstration Grants, reflecting a strong emphasis on helping regions like North Central Alabama plan for the future and build safer transportation systems.
